All about Figure skating

At the figure skating the athletes perform pirouettes, jumps and very complex and demanding step combinations on the ice. Figure skating was invented in Great Britain. From there it was spread over Europe. It´s first purpose was to move on ice in an artistic manner.

International contests were held first 1882. Since then this sport is well known and soon after, at the Olympic Summer Games in London in 1908 it became an Olympic discipline. Ice Skating also was among the disciplines of the first Olympic Winter Games held in 1924. The material improved and the performance became more demanding. The more the athletes had to show, the bigger was the interests of the public. At the Winter World Master Games 2020 the contests are divided into four disciplines: Women’s and Men’s Individual, Ice Dance, Pairs and Synchronized. The requirement to participate is being 28 years old by June 30th 2019.

Figure Skating is an essential part of the Winter World Masters Games 2020. The contests take place from January 13th – 19th at Olympiaworld Innsbruck.
