It was another glorious day in Tyrol today as the first weekend of the Winter World Masters Games 2020 comes to a close. We spent the day up at our local mountain Patscherkofel to bring you all of the action and photos from the second day of the Slalom and Giant slalom. You could feel the positive energy in the air. We took our position on the side lines chatting to the supporters who were constantly cheering and motivating their fellow contestants.
First up on the slopes we have the Women ranging in age from 30-79 all competing for the top spot. Determination was high and all ladies performed to the best of their abilities. After a short break the men, aged 60-87 took the stage to showcase their skills on the slope.
We met some very inspiring people today who have proven to us that age REALLY is just a number. All of the athletes were out there to have fun, ski as fast as possible and came out smiling at the finish line to a wave of applause from spectators.
Gottfried Suppan at age 87 is one of the oldest athletes competing in the games. We asked him what he thought of his run and he replied positively with “Very nice day but ice, ice, ice! So it’s very difficult for someone my age to go down. But, you have to do it!”
Another contestant, Yoav Shapiro from the States when asked to share his plan for the race responded with “have fun, enjoy everything Austria has to offer and, of course, get to the bottom”.
Overall, it felt incredible to witness people of different ages come together to compete in the sport they all know and love.
