Music, customs and traditions presented by Innsbruck Tourism

Dive deeper into the fascinating world of Innsbruck’s customs and traditions. Great variety and entertainment are guaranteed with traditional songs and Tyrolean folk dances such as the famous thigh-slapping ‘Schuhplattler’.

7 pm – 8 pm Tyrol evening
Let the Gundolf family, also called the “musical ambassadors of Innsbruck and Tyrol”, enchant you with local yodel songs and Tyrolean singing. They have been hosting typical Tyrolean evenings and sharing their love of Tyrolean traditions since 1967.

8 pm – 8:30 pm Rumer Muller
Only a short distance from Innsbruck, the village of Rum takes carnival celebrations very seriously. On the 7 January every year, following the celebration of the Epiphany, the “Rumer Muller” take over in a spectacular procession dating back centuries. Dressed in elaborate costumes to symbolise spring (“Der Halbweiße”), summer (“Der Melcher”), midsummer (“Der Spiegeltuxer”), autumn (“Der Zaggeler”) and winter (“Der Zottler”), the group traditionally composed of only men transforms the streets of Rum into a wild spectacle. Their dancing, accompanied by the typical sound of the Styrian harmonica, enacts the arrival of spring and drives away evil winter spirits.
