Maria-Theresien-Straße

Baroque architecture and views of the Nordkette mountains

There is no better way to enjoy Innsbruck than by strolling along Maria-Theresien-Straße, visiting its many shops and stopping off for coffee and cake at one of the traditional cafés. Innsbruck’s main shopping street is a fascinating mixture of historical and modern buildings and offers fine views of the Nordkette mountains to the north of the city. Around 700 years ago this part of Innsbruck was home to just a few farmhouses. Since then it has grown into the heart of the city. Famous sights include the Annasäule column, the Georgskapelle chapel inside the Landhaus building and the Triumphpforte victory arch. Modern architecture features in the form of the Kaufhaus Tyrol shopping centre and the Rathaus Galerien arcades.
