Hungerburgbahn funicular railway

Built in 2007 by world-famous architect Zaha Hadid

The bottom station of the Hungerburgbahn funicular railway is just a stone’s throw from the oldtown. It was designed by world-famous architect Zaha Hadid and opened in December 2017. She drew inspiration from the landscapes of snow and ice which dominate the region, with each of the four stations designed in a sweeping style reminiscent of snow drifts and glacier flows. From the top station at Hungerburg it is possible to continue your journey up into the mountains using the cable cars of the Nordkettenbahn all the way to Seegrube (1,900m) and Hafelekar (2,334m).
